Day 63 — Dry Practice (and a lot of driving)

October 29th, 2010 Tom

It took nine and half hours to drive to Phoenix today. The temperature was in the low 20s when I left my house this morning and in the upper 80s when I arrived this afternoon. I much prefer the the weather here in Phoenix.

After dinner tonight ToddG swapped out the trigger spring in my P30. Oddly enough, despite the obvious defect seen in the photo I took on Day 55 the spring is not broken, or rather not completely broken. When it came out of the gun I was surprised to see that it was still one piece. It was cracked most of the way through and badly distorted, but not broken into two pieces. I suppose this is why the trigger continued to function. The process of replacing that spring is pretty simple; however, it is certainly not easy. I had a bit of trouble getting the trigger pin fully inserted, but I suppose it will get easier with practice and over the next 10 months I should get plenty of practice.

With my gun back together and functioning, I retreated to my room and did 20 minutes of dry fire. I completed 75 concealed draws and 75 reloads. I’ll likely shoot my backup P30 for at least the first half of tomorrow, but after that I’ll likely switch back to the other one.
